A Postcard from Pete Seeger (Happy 93rd to a Hero)

The great Pete Seeger turns 93 today.

Seeger is a hero in every way to me.  It does my heart good to know that he's still as active as he can be at his age, performing when he's able, and agitating and rebel-rousing as often as possible.

A few years back, some friends and I started a non-profit organization with the ever-so-humble goal of completely changing the world.  Our message was that if we all took the small steps that were easy for us, in an effort to make other peoples' days and lives better, then the world would be that much more positive of a place.  One of our guiding principals was a quote by Pete Seeger:

"The most important place in the world is wherever you are, right at that moment.  Think globally, but act locally."

As this group was getting started, I was able to deliver a message to several large groups.  One day, on a whim, I sent a copy of the message to Howard Zinn, another hero not unlike Pete Seeger.  To my great surprise, Zinn wrote me back within a few weeks.  He was very complimentary and encouraging of the message.  That inspired me to try and find Pete Seeger's address so I could send a copy to him and hopefully hear his thoughts.

I found an address on the internet, assuming their was no way it could actually be Seeger's home address.  Several weeks went by.  Then one day my wife brought me the mail with a big smile on her face.

The postcard below was addressed to me from one Pete Seeger.  I thought I'd share it on his big day today.
