"Sunshine and fresh air have nothing to do with the music I play.  Rock and roll is meant to involve loud volumes in small sweaty rooms.  It is sex, anger, joy, and pain in repetition, mixed with a certain amount of darkness and mystery...The music we make involves a certain amount of communal sharing, the release of demons, the ritualistic sacrificing of widely-held cultural beliefs, virginal maidens, and televisionary deceits."

- Bob Reuter

September 5, 2013 Playlist

Tune in to Dirty Roots Radio every Thursday night from 8 to 10 p.m. (central) at www.wgrn.net.

Well, here's the playlist that almost was. After I got settled in and started the show up, someone commented that they couldn't access the online stream.  Unfortunately, that's a problem beyond my control at the station this little show broadcasts from, so there simply wasn't a show.

Which is too bad, because I for one, needed some of the healin' feelin'...like bad, deep down in my soul.  And more than one listener made the same comment to me throughout the day today.

Hopefully all will be righted over the course of the next week, and we'll hit it HARD next Thursday night.

I don't usually do much planning ahead, but I had a few ideas tonight.  So, I figured even though there wasn't a show, I'd go ahead and share the portion of the playlist I had worked up.  I also had worked ahead on the photos that always accompany the playlist.  Sometimes I select those after the fact, sometimes I do it as I do the show.  Tonight I had a really specific feel in mind for the whole thing.

Here's what the first half hour or so would have been like....I think we woulda been onto somethin' good...

The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
Howlin' Wolf - Red Rooster
Rolling Stones - Rocks Off
Them - Baby Please Don't Go
Wynonie Harris - All She Wants to Do Is Rock
Billy Wright - Live The Life
Sir Douglas Quintet - Bacon Fat
R.L. Burnside - It's Bad You Know

"The sunshine bores the daylights out of me."  - The Rolling Stones

"Sometimes I am two people.  Johnny is the nice one.  Cash causes all the trouble.  They fight."  - Johnny Cash
