June 23, 2016 Show, PART ONE

Welcome to the first-ever two-part Dirty Roots Radio archive.

I think it's got something to do with Albert King...

Last time I played "I'll Play the Blues for You, Pts. 1 & 2", the station completely crapped out quickly thereafter. We were off the air for a couple of weeks. Tonight, I played it, and the Dirty Roots computer died. Don't get too into the song when you hear it here... :) That's a warning that you're about to have to advance to Track #2.

We're just not properly zoned for all the blues power of that song.

At any rate, this first half hour or so was pretty great, as we were just finding our vibe for the night. The interview with Bob Mehr (author of "Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements") and a whole lot of other bidness follows in Track #2.

June 23, 2016 Show, PART TWO

And here's part two...

This track contains part of my interview with Bob Mehr, author of "Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements" (BTW, how perfect that on a night we focus on those lovable scamps, THAT's the night we have trouble keeping this thing on the rails).

Also here, a Kris Kristofferson birthday salute, a June Carter Cash b-day tribute, a Ralph Stanley send-off, and some more stuff I can't remember right now. Blah-blah-blah...

Dig in.

Bob Mehr Interview

Right around the time I was lamenting the fact that I hadn't read a really good music biography in a long time, the folks at Da Capo Press rolled out "Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements", one of the best music bios I've read in forever.

I'm very pleased to share with you my conversation with the author of that book, Bob Mehr.

I can't say enough about this book.  It was truly a joy reading it and I really enjoyed visiting with Bob about his experiences interviewing the surviving members of the Replacements, the importance of the group and their place in music history, and separating fact from fiction when it comes to this legendary band.

Dig in, there's some good stuff here.  I hope you enjoy.

AJ Haynes (Seratones) Interview

The Seratones have been settin' the world afire lately with their patent witches brew of garage, punk, blues, and gospel.

When the opportunity to talk with Seratones' vocalist AJ Haynes, I jumped at the chance.

Their Bandcamp page says the four-piece combo is, "...highly skilled in the art of rocking your socks off, bringing the house down, and blowing your mind. Our goal is to make your musical experience replenish your faith in the power of Rock & Roll."

They ain't wrong.

And that's what we all the Healin' Feelin'.

Be sure to check out their album, "Get Gone", out now on Fat Possum Records.

Dig in and enjoy this one.

Andre Williams Interview

You know those old guys who have all the war stories, but getting them to share any of them is like pulling teeth? Andre Williams is a bit like that.

As Bloodshot Records says, "Williams has been a singer, writer, producer, star-maker, showman, cult-hero and hustler for six decades. He’s been high, and he’s been low. He’s toured the world in snazzy suits and lived on the streets, asking for change."

He's been there, everywhere. Done it all. And lived to tell the tale.

He's not a man of many words...but man I sure had fun talking to him.

I hope you enjoy my interview with the great Andre Williams...

(His new album "I Wanna Go Back To Detroit City" is out June 3)
